Futsal is a type of soccer played indoors on a smaller field. Here are some basic rules to know before playing or watching a game:
- Each team has 5 players, no goalkeepers.
- The field is rectangular and measures 25-42m by 16-25m.
- The ball is smaller and heavier than a regular soccer ball, size 4 or 5.
- A game is split into two 20-minute halves with a 15-minute halftime.
- Unlimited substitutions can be made when the ball is out of play.
- Each team gets one 30-second time-out per half.
- All free kicks are direct, meaning they can be kicked directly into the goal.
- Penalty kicks are given for serious fouls in the penalty area.
- A player is expelled if they commit 3 accumulated fouls.
- Fair play is important and unsportsmanlike behavior will be penalized.
